Sierra Navarro is a freelance mercenary, bounty hunter, and former Companion working primarily in Neo-Atlantica. She rose to prominence in 3360 following her involvement in a suspected Nightwatch operation that brought down several former Jeruvian rebels hiding out in High Atlantic’s capital. Since then, Navarro has garnered a reputation as a clinical Contractor regularly leaned on to do the toughest jobs for some of the city’s top Brokers. She is also suspected to be a prominent operator in the High Atlantic Resistance Movement, with most evidence for this drawn from her prior association with Hacienda.
She is known to have a close working relationship with the assassin Nessa Bouchien.
Biography
Navarro was born in 3339 in Gatson-Scythia, the child of a unsanctioned prostitute and a gang-banger. Her mother raised her for the first nine years of her life before being forced to sign a gang prostitution contract that included a loss of custody over her daughter. This saw Navarro handed over to a local Companions Chapter as part of a bribe to ignore their unsanctioned operation. She was enrolled into a local Companion School, that would see her graduate at fourteen for work with ‘special interests’ clients.
A fourteen-year-old Navarro duly graduated at the top of her class, and was given the professional name she would go by for the rest of her life. She also received a variety of bionic and genetic modifications to prepare her for her new career. After two years of one-off gigs, she was signed on a two-year deal with Celestian arms-dealer Jacin Poxor, stipulated to end the day she turned eighteen. Three weeks into her contract, Poxor showed up dead in his beachfront holiday home in Saint Ferron, perfectly mozambiqued with his own handgun. The lack of public law enforcement on High Atlantic meant the case was never officially solved, particularly after the private contractors hired by his estate backed out following the assassination of several of their operatives.
Using funds stolen from her previous employer, Navarro made the down-payment on a small living unit in Galveston. To pay the rent, she decided to use her Companion training to take on contract work, and soon fell in with Hacienda, which provided work and nightlife in equal measure.
The transition was not as easy as she might have hoped, with freelance work posing a significantly more diverse set of challenges than the more regimented Companion contracts she was used to. The rigours of planning her own jobs proved particularly challenging, as did the difficulty of balancing her newfound freedom with actually applying herself to her work.
In 3359, she took on a routine data theft job that required her to infiltrate the Blue Moon Resort, break into one of the premium suites, and recover a hard-drive supposedly containing drug import vectors for Lambayeke. In the suite she was confronted and subdued by the occupant, despite his total lack of modifications.
The suite had been booked under a cover identity, and was in fact occupied by probationary Nightwatchman Felix Geltz. He offered her a job helping him bring down her employers, who were in fact former Jeruvian rebels fleeing Alliance law enforcement after the suppression of their uprising. This operation was highly classified and little about it is known, save that Geltz leveraged previous contacts on High Atlantic to prepare a sting operation, and that only one of three wanted rebels ended up being taken alive.
Following the operation, Geltz was recalled by Alliance Combat Forces in anticipation of raising tensions with the Kharak-Ghar. Following his departure from High Altantic, Navarro largely returned to her previous employment patterns. Notably, however, she began taking jobs directly from Mr Michigan, and her standing increased significantly, beginning a meteoric rise in prominence that saw her become one of the city’s most reliable and established contractors.
In 3378, she took a job from Dr Patrick Hargreaves, a retired Watchman acting as the primary Alliance informant on High Atlantic. This saw her asked to hunt down Felix Geltz, who had returned to Neo-Atlantica on the run from the Alliance after being framed by Cerbin Lawson for the murder of Hawk Argill.
Shortly after she took the contract, Geltz murdered a 3rd Street Mafia lieutenant, Savio Auditore, who had been directing the protection racket on his street. The Mafia responded by putting out the most expensive extant contract on the planet, effectively making it open season on his life. Rather than going to ground with his allies, Geltz remained openly active throughout the city, killing several prominent contractors when they found him.
Following his obvious trail, Navarro subdued Geltz and persuaded him to go to ground, arranging a meeting with Hargreaves and JT, a broker and one of their closest allies. Six weeks later, they assembled a crew and stole the retired fleet auxiliary Acquiesce, escaping off-world.
She has remained part of Geltz’s crew ever since, becoming his lover and playing a prominent role in numerous significant actions, including the boarding action at the Battle of Yundar.
Abilities
Navarro is famed for her coolness under pressure and fondness for indirect approaches. Her Companion training has left her particularly well-equipped to perform assassination, protection, and infiltration missions. She is also famed for her use of a high-end Quickdraw Module to kick off fights, and her use of high-calibre handguns to maximise its effectiveness.
Navarro is very heavily modified. Many of these were received during her time with the Companions, but she has since supplemented this suite, particularly following her rise to prominence in 3360. These give her enormously formidable physical capabilities that let her take on power-armoured opponents on a more-or-less equal footing.
Her signature weapon is a Musara Arms Gavel-pattern HandCannon, also notably used by Felix Geltz, albeit in a different modified configuration, as his primary sidearm.
